Who can tryout?
Tryouts are open to all rising 2024-2025 Dakota Ridge students.
How do I register for tryouts?

Online Registration Procedures
- Obtain a valid Athletic physical (must be an ‘athletic/sports’ physical, not a ‘well-child/general’ physical) Please have your Dr. fill out and sign the JEFFCO STATEMENT BY PHYSICIAN FOR ATHLETIC PARTICIPATION. (Make sure you have uploaded a physical to a fall registration even if you have already uploaded a winter and/or spring registration previously)
- Click on the ‘Athletic Team Registration’ icon
- First time users must ‘Create a Family Account’
- Go back in to the Athletic Registration website, click ‘Family Account Login’
- Register your student for their sport, this includes uploading his/her athletic physical…please make sure to enter the physical date exactly as shown on physical (incorrect info in this area will delay your registration)
- After the registration has been processed, you will receive an email from DRHS stating “Registration Complete”….at this point your student has been cleared to participate
- Fill out the google interest form, linked below
What should I wear to tryouts?
- During the clinics dancers should wear clothes they can move comfortably in and are comfortable sweating in. Clothing should follow Jeffco guidelines.
- Hair should be up and out of your face (be prepared with clips, headbands, etc.).
- This is a tryout process and should be treated as such. The final day of tryouts dancers are required to wear a leotard and black leggings or tights. No crop tops or short shorts. Attire should be appropriate.
What should I bring to tryouts?
- Tennis Shoes, Jazz Shoes and any other dance shoes you are comfortable in (dancers will not be able to dance barefoot)
- Snacks and plenty of water as we will allow small breaks throughout the process.
- Most recent final semester or trimester grade report
- Completed Tryout Packet (can be found in Important Documents)
- $60 Tryout fee- Cash, check, or money order made out to “Dakota Ridge High School”, memo- Poms Tryouts
Required Elements
Below is a list of skills that we will be looking for in each dancer trying out. We are looking for athletic dancers with a lot of energy, performance ability, and positive attitudes. Dancers should also be able to pick up choreography and adapt to changes quickly.
- Knowledge of Poms Arm Placements
- Turns (double pirouette minimum requirement)
- A la Seconde Turns (four minimum requirement)
- High Kicks (eight minimum above ninety degrees)
- Tilts
- Split Leaps
- Center Leaps
- Toe-Touches
- C-Jumps
- Calypsos
- Right and Left Splits
