Frequent Questions

What season does Poms/Dance fall into?

We are a fall and winter season sport under CHSAA but do run all year. We tend to have tryouts around March/April and spend our summer at camp and preparing for football season. Our competition is around October-December with Nationals falling around February. In addition we follow the Football and Basketball schedules and playoffs.

Can you do another sport?

We are willing to work with other coaches at Dakota Ridge, so long as there is communication in place. The big thing is general understanding of time commitment of our sport and that sport. Spring sports are easiest to work with with Fall being more challenging due to our competition schedule.

We are willing to look at what we can do so you have the best HS experience.

What does season cost look like?

We set up fundraisers throughout the year to help with team cost and try to have a pre season fundraiser to support individual costs. We offer rental uniforms to help reduce costs and try to be mindful of the financial impact of dance by reusing a lot of apparel and items throughout the years.

Exact costs do change each season with an estimated breakdown given during tryout meetings.

Does JV compete and perform at football games?

Our JV team will do everything our varsity team does at the JV level. Our sports teams have JV teams and we support them at their games. They will compete but not as much as our varsity team. They will compete at NDA, League and State. Our JV team will attend camp alongside our varsity team.

How do tryouts work? Do you have Fall tryouts?

We tend to offer tryout clinics about a month before tryouts to help you prepare and then have a week long tryout process with learning routines, interviews, technique and routine tryouts.

We have done fall tryouts in the past but it really depends on our program needs and interest changing each year.
